Our Story

When Katy first began this mission her heart broke when she helped her family buy Christmas presents for two children way back in 2016. She found out there were so many more just like those two kiddos and she said, “I just can’t handle that. I have to do something.”

But the only thing that she had to serve with were her two hands. She had nothing more to give. But, those hands happened to be extremely good at making homemade Caramel Apple Pies and her Grandma just happened to be so good at teaching her to make pie crust, so that’s just what she did!

She began to sell those pies to make money for the kids she wanted to help. The last year that she sold her award-winning pies she and her team made, packaged, sold and distributed 240 pies! All of the proceeds she made went to her kids.

Through the years Katy’s Kids outgrew pie-making and selling and her community stepped up in a mighty way. In 2021 she applied for and was granted her official 501(c)(3) status! After that she stopped making apple pies because donations from her community covered all costs. She has received grants, awards and major contributions from so many in her community.

Katy sought out organizations in her community that were already coming alongside kids and families in a major way and partners with them for her fundraisers, giveaways and drives.

Currently, every year she has between 50-75 volunteers that serve in a variety of ways. Every year around back to school time Katy’s Kids serves between 500-1000 kids through her backpack drive. She and her volunteers distribute brand new backpacks and school supplies by coming alongside organizations that do life with the kids and their families.

During the holidays Katy’s Kids provides food baskets and Christmas gifts for 75-100 kids and families in her community.

Her and her volunteers buy, sort, distribute, catalog and deliver everything by hand.

Katy’s Kids has always been about helping those in our community feel loved and seen even in the face of adversity. All of this started with a little girl who had a broken heart for humanity.

Katy’s ultimate goal is that every single child and family affected by Katy’s Kids feel loved and valued.

She would ask you: What are you doing with what you have to help someone in your community? You can make a difference!
